Mohammad Nur G. Casib of Philippine Science High School – Central Mindanao Campus in Balo-i, Lanao del Norte, has been selected to represent the Philippines at the 65th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) in Bath, United Kingdom, from July 11-22, 2024. This will be his third IMO appearance, having previously won bronze medals at IMO 2022 in Oslo, Norway, and IMO 2023 in Chiba, Japan.Good luck!

The IMO is the World Championship Mathematics Competition for High School students and is held annually in a different country. The first IMO was held in 1959 in Romania, with 7 countries participating. It has gradually expanded to over 100 countries from 5 continents. The IMO Board ensures that the competition takes place each year and that each host country observes the regulations and traditions of the IMO. This year’s event was supposed to take place in Ukraine but due to the ongoing conflict, the UK assumed hosting duties.

Accordingly, the Philippine International Mathematical Olympiad team members were selected through the Mathematical Olympiad Summer Camp (MOSC). Below are a few screengrabs from Go for Gold: Philippine IMO Team during the announcement of the IMO Team.

Other members of the Philippine IMO Team are Filbert Ephraim Wu  of Victory Christian International School (silver medallist in IMO 2023); Alvann Walter Paredes Dy of Saint Jude Catholic School (bronze medallist in IMO 2023); Jerome Austin Te  of Jubilee Christian Academy (silver medallist in IMO 2023); and Luke Sebastian Sy of Grace Christian College and Ervin Joshua Bautista of Southville International School and Colleges (both first time IMO participants).
