A Balete tree beside the College of Agriculture Building at Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan along Corrales Avenue in Cagayan de Oro City was uprooted by heavy rains from Tropical Storm Ada just before noon today, January 16, 2026. Videos circulating online show the fallen tree damaged three vehicles parked near the university gym — a Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Innova, and Suzuki Swift. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and campus personnel responded and secured the area. This marks the second similar incident at the university, following a September 2025 event when a car parked near the soccer field was damaged by a large tree branch during bad weather.
