A Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) fire truck was destroyed while responding to a residential fire along Burgos Street near JR Borja Bridge in Cagayan de Oro City on Tuesday afternoon, August 4, 2026, after strong winds caused the flames to spread toward the vehicle and a nearby building. The fire, which started just two houses away from a BFP sub-station, quickly intensified despite firefighting efforts, engulfing the truck and leaving it severely damaged. The incident highlights the dangerous conditions faced by firefighters and poses a temporary setback to the city’s emergency response operations. Investigation is still ongoing.

Based on radio interviews, BFP stated that the fire destroyed seven houses and one fire truck, while three other houses were partially damaged. The blaze, which reached the 4th alarm, caused an estimated ₱1.25 million in structural damage, while the destroyed fire truck was valued at about ₱8 million. No injuries or fatalities were reported. Initial investigation showed the fire started on the second floor of a medal and trophy shop that also served as a boarding house, with strong winds and closely built light-material houses contributing to its rapid spread. The cause remains under investigation.
