The Northwestern Mindanao State College of Science and Technology (NMSCST) in Tangub City has officially been renamed the University of Northwestern Mindanao (UNM) following the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)’s approval and certification of its conversion into a full-fledged state university, more than seven years after the enactment of Republic Act No. 11186 authored by then Congressman and now Governor Henry S. Oaminal, which paved the way for the institution’s elevation to university status.
