The Department of Science and Technology in Northern Mindanao (DOST-10) is advancing a research and development initiative for a hybrid, solar-powered salt production technology to address the limitations of traditional sun-drying methods, which are seasonal and weather-dependent. The project, in partnership with technology developer Mr. Victoriano Ocon, aims to enable more consistent, year-round production and improve income opportunities for local salt producers. On April 29, 2026, DOST officials led by OIC Regional Director Engr. Ruel Vincent C. Banal conducted an on-site assessment in Baybay, Alubijid, Misamis Oriental to evaluate the pilot site, supporting efforts to build a more sustainable and resilient salt industry.
