A robbery suspect was apprehended by concerned citizens following a commotion along Florentino and Osmeña streets in downtown Cagayan de Oro City on Thursday afternoon, January 8, 2026. The suspect allegedly attempted to flee, threatened bystanders with a firearm, and tried to hijack a taxi and a motorcycle before being subdued, with one citizen wresting the firearm away and turning it over to responding police and traffic officers. The suspect’s accomplice escaped and is now being hunted by authorities. A video of the incident has since gone viral.

Emergency responders later administered first aid to the suspect, who sustained cuts and bruises after being subdued by concerned citizens.
