The Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Environmental Management Bureau Region 10 (DENR-EMB 10) has issued a Cease and Desist Order against the temporary waste transfer station in Barangay Pagatpat, Cagayan de Oro City. The bureau said the facility was operating without proper authorization and directed the City Government to immediately stop its use and remove all waste for disposal at the city’s sanitary landfill in Barangay Pagalungan. Nearby residents had earlier complained of foul odor and flies from the site.
The EMB emphasized that waste transfer stations form part of the city’s overall waste management system and must comply with technical and environmental requirements under Republic Act No. 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
