The Chocolate Factory by DonCris Cacao—the first chocolate processing plant in Misamis Oriental—has just been launched. Located in Sitio Civoleg, Barangay Lunotan, Gingoog City, the facility will process cacao beans into export-ready products. It is also the first in the region to offer the public a firsthand look at how chocolate is made, from raw cacao beans to finished products. With this, the City Government of Gingoog sees new opportunities to boost the local cacao industry, strengthen farmers’ incomes and promote local tourism.

Gingoog City Mayor Erick G. Cañosa along with members of the City Council and DonCris Cacao owner Christina Maciba, led the launching ceremony held last July 8, 2025.

The project also aims to support local cacao growers and farmers by providing them with a direct market for their harvests. It also promotes agricultural development in the city and is expected to help residents earn a sustainable livelihood.

Local officials are hopeful that the project will further boost the local cacao industry, strengthen farmers’ incomes, and showcase the quality and potential of chocolate produced in Gingoog.
