Bukidnon wins big in Philippine Coffee Quality Competition 2025

Coffee farmers in Bukidnon has once again demonstrated their skills and dedication as they garnered significant recognitions during the Philippine Coffee Quality Competition (PCQC) 2025 on May 9, 2025 at One Ayala, Makati City.

Philippine Coffee Quality Competition is an annual competition that evaluates and ranks the quality of Philippine green coffee beans. The coffee beans are roasted and cupped based on its quality, flavor, acidity, and sweetness and assessed based on a standard protocol.

The PCQC 2025 recorded 186 official entries: 109 Robusta, 69 Arabica, 7 Excelsa, and 1 Liberica. 

Manolito Garces of Finca de Garces from Pangantucan, Bukidnon garnered the top spot in the Arabica Category-Estate Farm. He achieved a cupping score of 84.02.

Meanwhile, Adelina Tarino of Daraghuyan Ancestral Domain/Inhandig Tribal Multi-Purpose Cooperative from Malaybalay, Bukidnon claimed the second place with a  cupping score of 82.94.

Additionally, five more farmers from Bukidnon earned their places in the Top 12 in the Arabica Category-Smallholder Farms:

  • Fourth Place: Maynard Joseph Garces of Granja Alegre (Pangantucan, Bukidnon)
  • Eighth Place: Carmelino Debalde of MILALITTRA Farmers Agriculture Cooperative (MILFACO) (Talakag, Bukidnon)
  • Ninth Place: Fernando Enecito of MILFACO (Talakag, Bukidnon)
  • Tenth Place: Jocelyn Sulatan of MILFACO (Talakag, Bukidnon)
  • Eleventh Place: Regino Omarol of Inhandig Tribal Multi-Purpose Cooperative (Malaybalay, Bukidnon)

Aside from the awards, Special Citations were also given to Jocelyn Sulatan for Best Honey Processed (Arabica), Corazon Llauderes of Impalutao Dalwangan Sawaga ARC (IMDALSA) from Malaybalay City, Bukidnon for Experimental Coffee Citation (Arabica), and Carlo Casenillas of Bayanihan Millenium MPC (BMMPC) from Pangantucan, Bukidnon for Experimental Coffee Citation (Robusta).

PCQC is one of the major events of the Philippine Coffee Expo that was held on May 9-11, 2025 at One Ayala, Makati City
