“Lalay” victim is an animal lover, now recuperating at hospital

The man rescued from the jaws of the crocodile named “Lalay” in Barangay Laih, Siay, Zamboanga Sibugay on April 28, 2025, has been identified as Eric Saladaga Vista. In an interview, he said he is an animal lover and was simply curious about the crocodile, so he entered its enclosure to “talk” to it. Unfortunately, Lalay bit his leg and dragged him into the water. He couldn’t escape and was thrashed around. Rescue took time because the caretaker arrived late, and the police couldn’t act immediately, fearing they might harm the animal or violate wildlife laws. The crocodile eventually let go when the owner arrived. He is now recovering from his injuries at Margosatubig Regional Hospital in Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur.
