President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the inauguration of the expanded Balingoan Port in Misamis Oriental today, April 22, 2025. The port serves as a key gateway for travelers going to Camiguin Island. Upgrades include a new two-storey Port Operations Building with 500 seats, modern facilities, ticketing counters, lounges, restrooms, and space for shops. The port’s backup area was also expanded by over 10,800 square meters to improve cargo handling and logistics. The project aims to handle more passengers and goods efficiently.
The President also unveiled the marker of the terminal building upon arriving at the port and conducts a tour inside while being briefed by Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vivencio Dizon and Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Jay Daniel Santiago.
Serving as the primary gateway to and from Camiguin island, a premier tourist destination known for its volcanic landscapes, white sand beaches, sweet lanzones fruit and lush interior forests, the Port of Balingoan serves a pivotal role in enhancing tourism, trade and economic activities in Northern Mindanao or Region X.
Furthermore, a new gate complex is being constructed aimed at improving security and traffic flow within the port premises. This will streamline the entry and exit of vehicles and passengers, reducing congestion and enhancing overall operational efficiency.
