PH Women’s National Chess Team bags gold in 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad Category B; Oro’s Ruelle Canino is Top 12 on Board 4

The Philippine Women’s National Chess Team won the gold medal in Women’s Section Category B in the just concluded 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad held in Budapest, Hungary. Cagayan de Oro’s young chess sensation Woman National Master Ruelle Canino made an impressive Olympiad debut, beating two women grandmasters and securing a Top 12 finish on Board 4. Other members in the team are Woman Grandmaster (WGM) Janelle Mae Frayna, Woman International Master (WIM) Jan Jodilyn Fronda, WIM Bernadette Galas, and Woman FIDE Master (WFM) Shania Mae Mendoza. Congratulations!

Canino played 8 out of 11 games in the Olympiad, finishing with an impressive 6 points, recording 5 wins, 2 draws and only 1 loss. Notably, she secured victories against WGM Claudia Amura of Argentina and Carmen Voicu-Jagodzinsky of Romania. See her performance below.

Canino is also the only Filipina who made it in the Top 12 on any Board.
