Do you remember the injured Philippine eagle rescued in Barangay Guinuyoran, Valencia City, Bukidnon, on August 31? Veterinary consultants from the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) in Davao City have decided to surgically amputate its shattered left wing to save its life. The wing had become necrotic and posed a risk of sepsis. The eagle, named “Kalatungan II,” weighed 3.1 kg at the time of rescue and was estimated to be 6-7 months old. It had just started flying out of its nest and was still learning to fly long distances.
The bird is now recovering at Doc Bayani’s Animal Wellness Center in Davao. Once positive signs of recovery are seen, the bird will be transferred to the quarantine facility at the Philippine Eagle Center in Malagos, Davao City.
