Four baristas from Bukidnon claimed four of the top six spots in two coffee competitions during the recent Kape NorMin, held on August 21, 2024, at SM City CDO Uptown in Cagayan de Oro City. Kape NorMin is a highlight of the Kahimunan Regional Trade Fair 2024, an annual event organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region 10 as part of the Higalaay Festival celebrations.
Sam Henry Mabolo from Don Carlos, Bukidnon bested 15 participants as he bagged the top spot and impressed the judges with his brewing skills during the Brewer’s Cup Challenge. Mr. Bryan Steve Lig-ang from Malaybalay City, Bukidnon and Ms. Lovely Ann Labadan from Balingasag, Misamis Oriental secured the second and third place positions, respectively.
Meanwhile, Mr. Jerry Donato from Sumilao, Bukidnon won the Latte Art Throwdown. Mr. Ian Hablo from Malaybalay City, Bukidnon finished in second place while Mr. John Kenneth Monares from Cagayan de Oro City placed third in the competition.
Latte art throwdown is a competitive event where contestants showcased their skills in creating intricate designs on top of a latte. Twenty contestants competed with their latte art judged according to techniques used such as pouring, swirling, and etching of different patterns.
The Kahimunan Regional Trade Fair 2024 ran from August 16 to 22, 2024.
