A fire damaged the main lobby of The VIP Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City early on Sunday, June 23. The prompt response from the Bureau of Fire Protection and the CDO Volunteer Fire Brigade helped contain the blaze. All hotel guests and employees were safely evacuated. Located in the city’s downtown area, The VIP Hotel is considered a local landmark. Following the incident, hotel management released a statement announcing its temporary closure.

To our valued guests,
We regret to inform you that a fire incident isolated in the lobby of The VIP Hotel occurred this morning at around 5:40am. Our utmost gratitude to the prompt response of the Bureau of Fire and Protection and the CDO Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Filipino-Chinese Community who quickly contained the fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among guests and staff who have been promptly vacated.
As a result of this incident, The VIP Hotel will be closed until further notice to ensure the safety and well-being of our guests and employees. We are working diligently with authorities to assess the damage and make the necessary repairs as swiftly as possible.
