PROJECT WATCH: DOST-PAGASA inaugurates Mindanao Planetarium in El Salvador City

The first-ever Planetarium in Mindanao was officially inaugurated today, May 17, 2024 with Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Secretary Dr Renato Solidum, Jr., leading the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the facility situated at the PAGASA Station in Barangay Molugan, El Salvador City, Misamis Oriental. The Planetarium, equipped with state-of-the-art visualization technology, offers an unparalleled experience of the cosmos, taking visitors on captivating journeys through the universe, from distant galaxies to the birth of stars. Featuring a theater-type facility and a dome for astronomical shows, the Planetarium also houses newly acquired telescopes for stargazing activities. Starting May 20, 2024, the facility will be accepting requests for lectures and shows on a first-come, first-served basis.

Also in attendance were Misamis Oriental Gov. Peter M Unabia, Congressman Yevgeny “Bambi” Emano, El Salvador City Mayor Edgar Lignes, city officials and staff, PAGASA personnel and other guests.
