Another batch of 4 educators from Cagayan de Oro in America’s Favorite Teacher competition

We just found out there are four more teachers from Cagayan de Oro now based in the United States who have joined America’s Favorite Teacher competition. They are ALMA ALORRO of Gila Bend Unified School District in Arizona, GROVER ASEQUIA of Gila Bend Elementary School in Arizona, AZIEL AMPER of Grants High School in New Mexico, and ADONIS AWITIN of Seven Mile Elementary School Whiteriver Unified School District in Arizona. Let us show our support by voting them to advance to the next round of the competition.

Alma Alorro is from Iponan, Cagayan de Oro. After graduating with a degree in Elementary Education from Xavier University in 1997, she worked as an elementary school librarian at Kong Hua School for year. Then, she became a public school teacher in 1998 with DepED CDO Division where she spent 24 years before becoming an Art Teacher at Gila Bend Unified School District in Arizona, USA. Last April 2023, she was awarded as Teacher of the Year after just her first year of teaching.

Grover Asequia from Barangay Macabalan is currently a Resource Teacher at Gila Bend Elementary School in Gila Bend, Arizona. After finishing his bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at Bukidnon State University, he completed a Diploma in Special Education at Mindanao University in Science and Technology and Master of Arts in Educational Administration at Phinma-COC.

In 2018, Grover was named Regional Winner in the Civil Service Commission’s Search for Outstanding Government Workers under the Outstanding Work Achievement Award while acting as school principal of St John Elementary School in Puntod, Cagayan de Oro City.

He also wrote a book “Discovering Your Potential: Embracing Life’s Boundless Opportunities” which he published in the US.

Aziel Amper is an alumna of Corpus Christi School in Macasandig where she taught for 8 years from 2011 to 2019. Now, she teaches Algebra at Grants High School in Grants, New Mexico.

Adonis Labadan Maestrado Awitin from Barangay Lumbia previously taught at Lumbia Central School. He now imparts knowledge at Seven Mile Elementary School Whiteriver Unified School District in Arizona as a participant of the Cultural Exchange Program. He also served as a Teachers Fellow at Teacher Leadership Shilgozoo Institute 2023 in Northern Arizona University, Arizona, USA.
