Construction of the new Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail located in Brgy Camelon, Initao is just about almost finished. This as some members of the Provincial Board together with officials of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology recently inspected the 5-hectare facility to check on the project status and ensure the smooth transfer of some 598 persons deprived of liberty (PDL) from the current facility near the provincial capitol in Cagayan de Oro.
According to Asst. Provincial Warden Francis Sarangay, of the 598 PDLs, 361 or 51.08% are drug-related cases, 54 are facing murder charges and the remaining 183 have cases involving robbery, homicide, and violation of RA 9262, among others.

The new 5-hectare facility has fifteen (15) buildings, watch towers, water reservoir, solar street lights, primary and secondary perimeter fence and can accommodate around 1,200 PDLs. It also has male and female dormitories, chapels, laundry areas, conjugal rooms, separate building for minors and mentally ill, health clinic, covered courts.






The current location of the provincial jail is right in the middle of the commercial district in the city.
