The new state-of-the-art Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail (MOPJ) located in a 5-hectare area in Barangay Kamelon in the Municipality of Initao is now in its final stages of construction. Meanwhile, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) has also passed proposed Ordinance No. 38-2023 which allows the transfer of inmates at the current site along Antonio Luna Street in Cagayan de Oro City to the new facility in Initao once completed.
Accordingly, all the major structures and facilities are already done including the separate detention facilities for men, women and minors, jail hospital and related facilities. You can observe below the watch tower being installed. You can also see the inner and outer perimeter fences. The facility is also fully automated.

Unlike the current facility which is located in a highly commercial district, the new MOPJ is located in a remote area far from residential communities approximately 5 kilometers from the National Highway.
