Xavier University has just been declared the winner of the recent 47th Mindanao Parliamentary Debate Championship held September 22-24, 2023. The team of James Ryan Cachola, Philip Matthew Adviento and Steven Paul Siawan claimed the championship as the top breaking team of Mindanao. Further, this contingent also claimed the top 3 spots in College Best Speakers category – Cachola as Overall Best Speaker and Finals Best Speaker, Adviento as 2nd Best Speaker and Siawan as the 3rd Best Speaker. Meanwhile, another contingent from XU composed of Arc Megreño, Kiarra Lingating, and Marvin Battung secured the spot as the 3rd Breaking Team of the College Category.

XU’s third contingent composed of Albert Melodia, Huezen Montejo, and Zoe Gabia also had an impressive run during the event despite this was their first major tournament.

XU’s Judge representatives included Sean Sanchez and Angeline Marie.

XU’s Rayan Camid served as Tournament Director for the 47th Mindanao Parliamentary Debate Championship!

The Mindanao Parliamentary Debate Championship (MPDC) is the largest regional debate tournament in Mindanao, alternating from Asian Parliamentary and British Parliamentary debate formats. MPDC is open to all college and high school debaters and adjudicators from schools and universities across Mindanao.
