The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has disclosed plans to expand Laguindingan Airport’s passenger terminal building (PTB) that is scheduled to begin in December 2023 and is expected to be completed in June 2024. The innovative expansion project will increase its pre-departure terminal capacity to 860 persons from 500 persons. It can be recalled that Misamis Oriental 2nd District Representative Yevgeny Vincente Emano lambasted officials of the Department of Transportation for excluding the expansion of the airport’s passenger terminal in the General Appropriations Act (GAA) during the budget hearing.
The expansion project comes as the public-private partnership (PPP) project for the airport is set to start next year.

Accordingly, the expansion project will employ a modular design concept using converted materials, which is a structural concept that has been successfully implemented at Borongan Airport. The modular expansion, using pre-fabricated structural steel, is a sustainable and cost-effective approach that allows for flexibility in design and rapid construction. The additional modules will integrate seamlessly with the existing structures, creating a cohesive and modern terminal space. As shown below, it will just be a small ground level extension perhaps just a temporary structure anticipating the bigger project under PPP.
