Misamis Oriental 2nd District Cong. Yevgeny Vincente Emano has secured the commitment from Health Secretary Dr. Teodoro J Herbosa for the 100-bed Northeastern Misamis General Hospital (NMGH) in Looc, Villanueva to be operational by October 31, 2023 initially as an infirmary. NMGH is planned to be a Level 2 Hospital aimed to decongest Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC) in Cagayan de Oro. This was made during the health department’s recent budget hearing at the House of Representatives.
It was gathered during the budget hearing that while construction of NMGH was still ongoing, the hospital had been left without funding since 2022 and upon interpolation, they had planned to allocate funding for 2025. This drew strong disagreement from Cong. Emano which means NMGH will be without funding for the whole of 2024.
Cong. Emano stressed that NMGH was established by RA 11721 with an allocation of P400 million and the Department of Health (DOH) should abide by its commitment to have the hospital operational by October 31, 2023 at least as an infirmary while awaiting funding for medical equipment.
It was at this point that DOH Secretary Herbosa gave assurance that NMGH will be operational by October 31 and he would make provisions to allocate funds for the hospital in the upcoming year.
