Cagayan de Oro eyes sisterhood with Yanggu County (Korea)

A Sister City Agreement between Cagayan de Oro City and Yanggu County, Gangwon Province in South Korea is currently being studied. This was revealed by City Councilor Suzette Magtajas-Daba as the proposal was discussed during a meeting among the city’s major stakeholders and officials.

Yanggu County is located in the northern part of South Korea which borders the Demilitarized Zone. It is also where major battles during the Korean War took place including Bloody Ridge, Heartbreak Ridge, and Hill 1179 (source).

Among those who attended the meeting City Councilors James Judith, Malvern Esparcia, Jay Roa Pascual and Aga Suan, Sister Cities and International Relations Program focal person Eileen San Juan, Oro Trade and Investment Promotion officer John Asuncion, Mike Baños; chairperson CDO Historical and Cultural Commission Nic Aca; OIC – City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office Rico Libre and other city hall staff.
