The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has released its 5-day forecast of Heat Indices of several areas in the country. In Cagayan de Oro, the maximum heat index is forecast on March 30 at 37°C. Heat index, also called “human discomfort index,” pertains to the apparent temperature that humans perceive. As shown, the highest heat index forecast is 43°C in General Santos on March 29 followed by Butuan on March 30 at 42°C.

PAGASA rececently recorded heat indices at dangerous levels (between 42 to 51°C) in Maasin, Southern Leyte at a sizzling 43°C today, March 25 followed by Masbate City and Davao City which both registered 42°C. The highest heat index this year was recorded in Butuan City at 47°C yesterday, March 24.

To avoid heat-related illnesses, PAGASA strongly urged the public to “limit the time spent outdoors, drink plenty of water, and avoid tea, coffee, soda, and liquor.” Warning signs and symptoms of heat-related illnesses include sweating heavily, exhaustion, dizziness, and vomiting.
