Purok and sitio leaders in Barangay Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City have started gathering accumulated trash in the two trash traps installed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Region X (DENR-X) at Bitan-ag Creek. Each trash trap is made of approximately 57,000 used empty bottles from barangay residents under the Trash for Rice Campaign of DENR-X.
As shown, the trash trap prevented debris and other garbage from flowing out into the bay.
Barangay personnel start to collect the trapped wastes to avoid declogging and allow the creek to flow.
Barangay officials are seen sorting the trash for recyclables.
A few weeks ago, officials of DENR-X turned-over the Trash Trap Project to recipient barangays Lapasan and Puntod. Barangay Lapasan Chairman Julito D. Ogsimer and Barangay Puntod Chairman Rexie A. Tinampay represented by Councilor Job Bonjoc accepted the project funded by DENR Central Office through the Task Force Tayo ang Kalikasan.
Barangay Lapasan also received One Hundred Thousand Pesos (Php100,000) fron DENR-X as financial assistance for the maintenance of the trash traps.
