Age did not stop 81-year-old Flaviano Verad Abragan, Jr. from pursuing his dream as he took the September 2026 Civil Engineers Licensure Examination in Cagayan de Oro without using a calculator. A 1989 Liceo de Cagayan University graduate and former mathematics teacher, Abragan took the two-day exam more than 30 years after earning his engineering degree, relying on manual computation and basic mathematics. His participation drew attention online as he faced the same board exam as thousands of younger examinees, showing that age does not have to be a barrier to pursuing a long-held goal.

Abragan, however, was not among the 6,337 examinees who passed the licensure examination, according to the results released by the PRC on October 2, five working days after the exam.
