Japan seems to be lucky for Carlo Paalam. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics silver medalist advanced to the men’s 55kg boxing gold-medal match at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games after edging 2025 World Champion Makhmud Sabyrkhan of Kazakhstan via a close 3-2 split decision. He will face Japan’s Rui Yamaguchi in the final. Paalam is the lone Filipino boxer remaining in the competition and is assured of at least a silver medal.
