The student who went viral over an alleged school shooting threat has apologized, saying the video shared in a group chat was intended only as a joke and that there was never any intention of carrying out the threat. The incident sparked widespread concern, prompting several schools in Cagayan de Oro to suspend face-to-face classes as a precaution. According to the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO), the minor was voluntarily brought to Police Station 8 (Lumbia) by a grandparent after the video circulated online. The student was later accompanied by their parents and initially placed under police custody while the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) conducted its investigation. Police said the student admitted the video was meant only as a joke and never expected it to spread on social media. The minor has since been turned over to the City Social Welfare and Development Department (CSWD) for appropriate intervention and assistance.
