CDO City Councilor pushes stricter 10 PM cutoff for karaoke, videoke

Cagayan de Oro City Councilor Marlo L. Tabac has proposed amending the city’s noise ordinance to move the ban on karaoke, videoke, and other amplified sound from midnight–5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.–5:00 a.m. The measure whuch aims to promote public health by providing residents with a quieter environment for rest and sleep, also calls for stricter soundproofing requirements, compliance with noise limits, and tougher penalties—including possible business permit revocation—for repeat violators. The proposal is now under committee review.

Councilor Tabac, in his special report today, proposed to amend Section 614 of the Codified Ordinances of Cagayan de Oro (Ordinance No. 4373-94), which regulates the use of karaoke, videoke, and other similar sound devices in bars, beerhouses, restaurants, hotels, motels, and other business establishments.
