Top NPA leader killed in Bukidnon encounter; firearms recovered

Troops of the Philippine Army’s 8th Infantry Battalion under the 403rd Infantry Brigade neutralized a key leader of the North Central Mindanao Regional Committee of the New Peoples Army (NPA) during a brief encounter in Sitio Nalumusan, Barangay Silae, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon on June 21, 2026. Acting on civilian information, government forces engaged the group for about five minutes, resulting in the death of Romeo Mampinsahan, also known as “Kakoy” or “Yuman,” a senior commander, with two high-powered firearms recovered at the scene. Authorities said the operation further weakened the group’s leadership, noting that three of its key figures have already been neutralized, while reaffirming continued security operations in Bukidnon and urging remaining members to surrender.
