The Pelaez Sports Complex in Cagayan de Oro City is set for a major transformation as local leaders have joined forces to bring back its glory as Northern Mindanao’s premier sports venue. An initial ₱300 million commitment has been pledged by the provincial government of Misamis Oriental, Cagayan de Oro City, and congressional representatives to rehabilitate and modernize the facility.

The planned upgrades include new and improved sports facilities, additional tennis courts, an expanded swimming pool that will meet Olympic-size standards, pickleball courts, a new rubber track oval, football field improvements, and a better drainage system to address flooding issues.

The grandstands will also undergo renovation, with seating capacity expected to increase from around 2,000 to 5,000. Future developments include multipurpose buildings, training areas, and dormitory facilities designed to support athletes and major sporting events.

Once completed, the revitalized Pelaez Sports Complex is envisioned to host bigger competitions, including possible national events like the Palarong Pambansa, while strengthening Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental’s role as a center for sports, tourism, and community activities in Northern Mindanao.
