A Samar Cobra (Naja samarensis), a highly venomous spitting cobra species endemic to the Visayas and Mindanao, was recently turned over by the Cagayan de Oro City Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Team to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region X (DENR X) Regional Wildlife Rescue Center on November 3, 2025, for safekeeping and care. The snake, found in Gran Europa, Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City, was received by DENR officials and veterinarian Dr. Rodner Tuquib. DENR X continues to remind the public to comply with Republic Act 9147, or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act, and to promptly report any sightings or rescues of wildlife to local authorities.
