Woman FIDE Master (WFM) Ruelle Canino of Cagayan de Oro earned the Woman International Master (WIM) title after winning silver in the Women’s Division of the 6th ASEAN+ Individual Chess Championships (Gov. Henry Oaminal Cup) held at the Misamis Occidental Resort and Aquamarine Park in Sinacaban, Misamis Occidental. The 17-year-old finished with 6.5 points—just half a point behind champion IM Evgenija Ovod of Russia (7 points)—and edged out Russia’s WFM Anna Zhurova and Indonesia’s WIM Laysa Latifah via tiebreak. Canino’s impressive performance also earned her first Woman Grandmaster (WGM) norm.
