DTI turns over ₱9.55-M Abaca Mechanization Project to Misamis Oriental Provincial Government

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Misamis Oriental has turned over a ₱9.55-million Shared Service Facilities (SSF) project to the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental on October 21, 2025. The initiative aims to boost abaca fiber production in the province’s first district and further strengthen the local abaca industry. The SSF program is one of DTI’s flagship initiatives designed to equip micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with modern machinery, equipment, and technical support through a shared system to improve productivity and competitiveness.

The Abaca Mechanization in Misamis Oriental SSF Project aims to boost the production of high-grade abaca fiber in the first district of Misamis Oriental, address the supply gap of high-grade fibers, increase the income of fiber crop farmers, and mechanize the abaca fiber processing in the province.

The project includes 45 spindle stripping machine, 32 tuxying machine, 1 baling machine, and 1 brushing machine.

Twenty-four farmer organizations across the first district of Misamis Oriental will benefit from the project with Kabangasan-Mapua-Dahilig ARC Multi-Purpose Cooperative (KAMADA ARC MPC) as the main beneficiary of the facility.

In his message, DTI-10 Regional Director Ruel Paclipan emphasized that market demand is not a concern. In fact, there are buyers who are actively seeking high-grade abaca fibers.

Gusto ta mu-supply og high-quality para mutaas ang presyo. Ngano gusto ta mutaas ang presyoAng bottom line jud gusto nato mu-increase ang income sa mag-uuma (We want to supply high-quality [abaca] so that the price increases. Why do we want the price to increase? The bottom line is we really want the income of the farmers to increase.)” RD Paclipan said.

Engr. Rico Badilla, General Manager of KAMADA, expressed his gratitude for the project. With KAMADA as the project’s hub, he also affirmed the cooperative’s commitment to ensure the success of the project.
