The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has announced the arrest of a Japanese fugitive, identified as Yoshihiko Kubura, 59, in Barangay Patag, Cagayan de Oro City, on October 15. Kubura, who also goes by the alias Yoshihiko Tashiro, is wanted by the Kyoto District Court for assault and causing injury under Japan’s Penal Code after allegedly attacking a man in a Kyoto City karaoke bar in 2013, leaving the victim with facial fractures. He was apprehended by agents of the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU), in coordination with the Philippine National Police, BI Regional Intelligence Unit 10, and Japanese authorities, following a formal request from the Japanese government for his deportation.

Verification from the BI database revealed that Kubura last entered the Philippines in February 2012 as a temporary visitor and had overstayed since April 2014. He is also included in the Bureau’s Watchlist and Blacklist Orders for being a fugitive from justice.
