ANGELO MARK P. WALAG, PhD
Cagayan de Oro’s Pioneer for Experiential Learning
Professor VI
University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines
Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental
Specialization: Chemistry Education
Years in Service: 12 years
Dr. Angelo Mark P. Walag has championed the integration of teaching, research, and extension work to elevate science education and teacher development. He has developed research-informed instructional materials, such as modules, digital content, and game-based learning tools to enhance student engagement and comprehension. As lead of the Instructional Technology and Educational Content (iTEC) initiative, he equips students with real world skills in bridging complex concepts by developing tools and strategies that make difficult subjects more accessible and engaging, transforming the learning experience into one that is both meaningful and empowering.
His research on scientific literacy and self-efficacy led to training modules for elementary science teachers, forming the foundation of extension programs aimed at strengthening teacher capacity. A key initiative is the Continuing Professional Learning Course (CPLC), which supports Alternative Learning System (ALS) teachers with structured, research-based training across multiple strands. Dr. Walag institutionalized these efforts through a five-year MOA with DepEd Region 10 and continues to pursue CPD accreditation. His programs have been replicated in various DepEd divisions, expanding their impact. Through mentorship, collaborative partnerships, and curriculum innovation, Dr. Walag drives sustainable, learner-centered science education reforms that bridge academic research and real-world application.
