Did you know that the world-class coffee beans grown in Bukidnon’s Kitanglad and Kalatungan Mountain Ranges are actually a variety of the Ethiopian landrace from Africa? This intriguing discovery was shared by Pangantucan Mayor Manolito G. Garces during the recent Coffee Tour Experience organized by the Department of Tourism–Northern Mindanao in partnership with the Municipal Tourism Office. According to Garces, World Coffee Research facilitated a DNA test in France to trace the origins of the mother plant. How this particular variety reached Bukidnon remains unknown. Meanwhile, Garces’ Finca de Garces Farm continues to earn accolades in prestigious coffee quality competitions.
