PROJECT WATCH: DOST-PTRI to establish Silk Research Facility in Villanueva, MisOr

The Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) is set to establish a Technology Center on an eight-hectare property located in Barangay Imelda, Villanueva, Misamis Oriental. The facility will serve as a hub for textile research and the further development of the country’s silk industry. The National Housing Authority (NHA) and DOST-PTRI recently formalized a 25-year usufruct agreement, granting DOST-PTRI the right to utilize the property, which forms part of the NHA-owned Andam Mouswag Project.

Under the agreement, DOST-PTRI will be allowed to use the land free of charge for 25 years, beginning in 2026, with an option to renew. The agreement is based on NHA Board Resolution No. 7474, dated March 27, 2025, and is covered under Transfer Certificate of Title No. 29695.

NHA Assistant General Manager Alvin S. Feliciano led the signing ceremony, together with NHA Commercial and Industrial Estates Department (CIED) Acting Manager Nerissa Subido, officials from DOST-PTRI, and Makati City Mayor Nancy Binay, who expressed her commitment to supporting local silk production and textile innovation.
