Oro’s Ruelle Canino faces must-win after loss to Russian World Junior Champion at 2025 FIDE Women’s World Cup

Philippines’ Woman FIDE Master (WFM) Ruelle Canino from Cagayan de Oro City is now in a must-win situation after losing her first match to World Junior Champion Woman Grandmaster (WGM) Anna Shukhman of Russia at the FIDE Women’s World Cup in Batumi, Georgia on Sunday. The 17-year-old Canino resigned after a pawn checkmate and must win tonight’s game against Shukhman to stay in the tournament, which is a qualifier for the Women’s World Chess Championship.
