Gusa Barangay Captain Marlo Tabac was sworn in by Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy as the new president of the Liga ng mga Barangay in the city and as an ex-officio member of the 21st City Council. He replaces Yan Lam Lim, who became a regular member of the City Council after winning in the recent elections. Tabac also received a Certificate of Confirmation from the Liga ng mga Barangay National Office, affirming his assumption of the position by virtue of succession.

Tabac, who was then vice president of the Liga ng mga Barangay and next in line to assume the presidency after Lim’s election win, was unexpectedly sidelined when 64 barangay captains passed a resolution declaring his position vacant due to loss of trust and confidence, and requested a special election. However, the Liga ng mga Barangay National Office clarified that Tabac remains the recognized vice president, explaining that the request for a special election was premature since the conditions for a permanent vacancy were not met under its 2025 Constitution and By-Laws (CBL). It also emphasized that loss of trust and confidence is not a valid reason for removal or for declaring a permanent vacancy under the CBL. Read below.
