Access to the Karaang Jasaan Church Ruins, a historical site atop a hill in Barangay Aplaya, Jasaan, Misamis Oriental has been significantly improved with the completion of a 150-step concrete stairway with sturdy handrails leading to the site. The ruins, which date back to 1871, were once part of a Spanish-era complex that included a single nave church, courtyard, belfry, and convent. The project cost of around P650,000 was personally funded by Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Cong. Rufus Rodriguez.

Abamin Party-list Lead Nominee Maxie Rodrigue, on behalf of Cong. Rufus Rodriguez, led the turnover ceremony of the project alongside Jasaan Municipal Mayor Redentor ‘Red’ Jardin. Also in attendance were Mr. John Baclig and Ms. Rheta Mae Eblamo from the Department of Tourism (DOT) Region 10, representing Regional Director Mae Unchuan, as well as Municipal Tourism Officer Mr. Arden Mercado and members of the Barangay Aplaya Council.

The Karaang Jasaan Church Ruins is one of the historical sites included in the Cagayan de Oro-Misamis Oriental-Camiguin Historical Trail book of Cong. Rufus Rodriguez and the Congressional Historical Committee, chaired by Ms. Agnes Paulita ‘Nanette’ Roa.
