Kagay-anon formally assumes post as new Philippine Ambassador to Qatar

Mardomel Celo D. Melicor, a native of Cagayan de Oro City, has formally assumed his post as the new Philippine Ambassador to Qatar. He arrived in Doha on January 15, 2025, and was received yesterday, at the Amiri Diwan, where Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, accepted his credentials. Ambassador Melicor affirmed his commitment to strengthen diplomatic ties between the two countries through mutually beneficial programs and agreements. His previous international postings were at the Philippine Consulates and Embassies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Germany, Libya, and Poland.

During his arrival in Doha, Ambassador Melicor and his spouse were welcomed at the airport by Philippine Embassy officials and representatives of the Government of the State of Qatar, led by His Excellency Ambassador Ibrahim Yousif Abdullah Fakhro, Director of the Department of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

Prior to being designated as the Philippine envoy to Qatar, Ambassador Melicor was the Assistant Secretary for Middle East and African Affairs at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Manila. His appointment as the new Ambassador to Qatar was confirmed last September 2024.
