Green Planet Renewable Energy Corp (GPREC) recently inaugurated its waste processing plant located in Naawan, Misamis Oriental. Utilizing pyrolysis technology that converts used tires and plastic wastes into valuable industrial fuel oil, the facility was funded by the Department of Science and Technology – X (DOST-X) through the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP). This innovation provides an eco-friendly approach to waste management and aligns with DOST’s commitment to promoting a circular economy.
Pyrolysis is a chemical process that involves the thermal decomposition of organic materials at high temperatures in the absence of oxygen or in an oxygen-limited environment. This process breaks down complex molecules into simpler compounds without combustion, resulting in the production of gases, liquids, and solid residues.

Pyrolysis is increasingly utilized in waste management, energy production, biochar production and chemical recovery. It is increasingly gaining attention as a sustainable technology for waste-to-energy and renewable resource applications.
