RANDOM SHOTS: The trending puto bumbong near Rodelsa Circle

Have you tried the trending ‘Puto Bumbong ng Cebu” near Rodelsa Circle at Paseo del Rio? This unique take on the traditional Filipino Christmas delicacy has been drawing long lines of eager customers, especially at night. While puto bumbong is a seasonal favorite during the holidays, it is not as common in Cagayan de Oro compared to other local treats like puto, suman, bibingka and other kakanin often sold near churches during Simbang Gabi. Priced at P100 per styro box containing five pieces, customers patiently wait as each batch of puto bumbong is cooked and prepared.

The puto bumbong is made of glutinous purple rice steamed inside bamboo tubes called “bumbong.” Once cooked, it is carefully removed from the bamboo tube and rolled in grated coconut. To elevate the flavor it is sprinkled with grated cheese (lots of it) and finished with a drizzle of condensed milk. Note: not advisable for those who don’t like sweet treats.
