PROJECT WATCH: Nazareno Parish Church unveils new ceiling paintings as renovation continues as of September 2024

In case you haven’t been to the Nazareno Parish Church or the Shrine of the Black Nazarene in Cagayan de Oro City lately, it now has a beautifully painted new ceiling featuring four prominent religious figures – the Four Evangelists. These paintings are located along the upper section near the ongoing dome structure, adding a sacred and artistic touch to the church’s interior. This is part of the ongoing renovation works which aims to enhance both the spiritual atmosphere and the overall structure of the church. Check out latest photos below.

Do you recognize the Four Evangelists featured in the paintings?

This one at left with a cow is St. Luke and he is often symbolized or featured with a bull. At right is St. Mark who is often symbolized with a lion.

On the opposite side are St. John the Evangelist (left) who is often symbolized with an eagle. And finally St. Matthew (right) who is often depicted with an angel.

The four are attributed with the creation of the four canonical Gospels in the New Testament – the Gospel of Matthew; the Gospel of Mark; the Gospel of Luke; and the Gospel of John.

Meanwhile, workers are observed still finishing the dome.

Construction works are suspended during schedule of masses.

Exterior works are also continuing as shown below.

Keep posted.
