Cebu Pacific eyes Laguindingan Airport as expansion hub

Cebu Pacific Air, Inc. has identified Laguindingan Airport as one of its potential partners for expansion, following their purchase of 152 new aircraft—the largest aircraft order in Philippine aviation history. This exciting news was shared by Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Congressman Rufus Rodriguez, who also provided a copy of the letter sent to him by Cebu Pacific Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Michael Ivan Shau.

In the letter, Cebu Pacific stated that with the increased flights to and from the province, they anticipate that operating a hub will bring commercial and economic development in the province by creating new job opportunities and attracting ancillary businesses and services. Thus, the airline is asking support in three areas, namely: (1) Airport Improvement, (2) Development of a Structured Tourism Mechanism, and (3) Regulatory Support.

In response to the letter, Cong. Rufus has committed to supporting Cebu Pacific’s endeavor.

Cong. Rufus also shared that he had already requested Chairman Lance Gokongwei of Cebu Pacific Air months ago to establish direct flights from Cagayan de Oro City to Hong Kong and Singapore, as well as add additional domestic flights to Manila, Cebu, Davao, Bacolod or Iloilo, Clark, Pampanga, and Laoag, Ilocos Norte, to cater to the increasing number of passengers flying in and out of the region specially residents of Cagayan de Oro. Accordingly, he has positively committed to his requests once Laguindingan Airport facilities are expanded.
