Carlo Paalam overcame a 1-point deduction to defeat Armenia’s Artur Bazeyan via split decision (4-1) in the Men’s 57kg category, advancing to the quarterfinals of the World Olympic Qualifying Tournament at the Hua Mak Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. Despite three judges calling the bout even after three rounds due to Paalam’s deduction for holding, those judges ultimately voted in favor of Paalam.

Paalam now faces Jose Luis De Los Santos of the Dominican Republic tonight, Friday evening, May 31 for a return in the Olympics.
