Two suspects in the killing of Misamis Occidental broadcaster Juan “DJ Johnny Walker” Jumalon were arrested last March 15, 2024 by joint operatives of various police units in Misamis Occidental Police Provincial Office during the successive implementation of warrants of arrest. Both arrested suspects Boboy Sagaray Bongcawel and Renante Saja Bongcawel acted as lookouts when two men entered Jumalon’s house.

First to be arrested by virtue of a warrant was 39-year old Boboy Sagaray Bongcawel. He was nabbed by personnel of Sapang Dalaga Municipal Police Station, along with other units, at around 5:20pm at Purok-Celso Velez, Brgy. Poblacion, Sapang Dalaga, Misamis Occidental.

Subsequently, at 5:50 PM, his 39-year-old relative, identified as Renante Saja Bongcawel, was also apprehended by virtue of a warrant of arrest by personnel of Calamba Municipal Police Station and other units at Purok Jasmin, Brgy. Poblacion, Sapang Dalaga, Misamis Occidental.

Both were arrested for the crime of murder docketed under Criminal Case No. 2285, dated March 15, 2024, with no bail bond recommended. They are now in custodial facilities for proper disposition.

It can be recalled that Jumalon, a radio broadcaster for 94.7 Gold Mega Calamba FM, was shot dead while live streaming his program on Facebook at his residence last November 5, 2023 in Calamba, Misamis Occidental.
