Travelers bound for Camiguin yesterday, February 22, experienced temporary delay upon entering the Passenger Terminal Building of Balingoan Port in Balingoan, Misamis Oriental for the 8:00am trip after two male passengers were interrogated by port security officials for declaring that their bags contained a bomb during their baggage security inspection. The incident prompted security personnel and K-9 of the Philippine Coast Guard to act immediately wherein it was later determined that the bomb threat was merely a joke made by the passengers.

The security measure on the two suspects caused the delay of entry of other passengers to the port terminal as other units from the Balingoan Municipal Police Station (MPS), PCG, Philippine Army Intel Unit and PNP Maritime officials also conducted their own investigation. The suspects were then turned over to the Balingoan MPS for proper disposition and follow-up investigation.

Presidential Decree No. 1727 punishes bomb jokes with a penalty of imprisonment of not more than five (5) years, or a fine, or not more than forty thousand pesos (P40,000.00).
