An American national is now detained at the PNP Headquarters of Laguindingan Airport facing appropriate charges after making a bomb joke while on board a flight from Cebu. The flight, Cebgo DG 6723 carrying 73 passengers landed at the airport around 9:42 PM, Tuesday, February 20, 2024. According to airport authorities, during the disembarkation process, the suspect stood up to retrieve his baggage and made a threatening remark, stating, “I can shoot you all, and I can trigger the bomb.” This prompted aircraft personnel to report the incident to the Control Tower.
Subsequently, the PNP-Aviation Security Unit and CAAP Security and Intelligence Unit conducted K9 panelling and checked all passengers’ baggage, all of which showed no indication of bombs.
The suspect was interrogated by PNP-AVSEU and is currently detained at the PNP headquarters of Laguindingan Airport to face appropriate charges.
Presidential Decree No. 1727 punishes bomb jokes with a penalty of imprisonment of not more than five (5) years, or a fine, or not more than forty thousand pesos (P40,000.00).
